Well, what can we say....we quite fancy girls with jumpers, girls in Des Moines jumpers specifically....that's all....how tumblr of us....well actually if you like us when we are a bit more chatty, we could just mention we launched a 2nd floor at The Lazy Ones a few weeks ago...it looks smashing!

Also we have created a new capsule collection (jersey dresses, bodies, leggings, accessories...) to go with the minimal look of our new floor at our flagship store in Shoreditch, where, maybe, when you visit us we will be playing girls with...glasses.....ok, apols for the terrible joke but our brain is a bit of a porridge from getting together our latest japanese order...

...seriously, when are they gonna have enough of us over there, jeez?.....haha, of course we are joking, we LOVE that you can buy Des Moines in central Tokyo, as well as NYC and of course London!

It's the end of the year! we thought rather than putting together a collage of the best of the past 12 months (btw amazing year! record sales year!) we'll share some new instagram pics with you. A bit like that vice pictures issue they do every summer but for xmas. And next year it's gonna be...olimpic! we are putting together a capsule collection of bags, producing our new spring collection for Japan and expanding our shop in Shoreditch among lots of other things that we don't even know about yet .... Mosaic! aztec! tribal! we are really digging it right now...actually we are figuratively digging these graphic styles AND literally digging, as we are expanding The Lazy Ones, our shop in Shoreditch, to 2 floors! double the fun AND double the clothes.

Currently such a contrast between our dusty mornings in the basement and the glamourous afternoons in the shop with beautiful customers like Meryl Fernandes , that bought our midi black lace to wear to an event...with photocall!

And we have just remembered that about the same time as Lily Mandelbaum came to film us, Yvan Facehunter came to the park with us to walk our dog Jules, and that's his pic of us. You know, Yvan actually doesn't like dogs very much although he did quite a good job hiding it, so to take the guy out of his misery, we suggested we leave the dog home and go to the Albion for breakfast, cos you know, that's where you take your friends with french accent for a snack in Shoreditch. Bliss!

Brilliant making off picture from the photoshoot we mentioned you we were organizing with Patricia Rezai for Des Moines winter collection, shoot in nearly every floor of our hq, from basements to bedrooms. We got together with Nikola Vasakova and Scarlett Valentine one early morning, we brewed some coffee, played some Abe Vigoda and just started shooting lots of clothes from our current collection like this ones...

We like how nice clothes look in hangers, specially if you follow the retail rule of the finger separation, but we like clothes on people even more. Let me tell you, spotting people on your clothes...it never gets old! Sometimes we spot them in our flagship store....

...sometimes we spot them on facebook, like this one....

and sometimes it just happens that you see your clothes on gossip magazines, like this cute texan girl we saw wearing Des Moines...

haha, yes if you follow our facebook you already know Beyonce, yes THE Beyonce, probably THE biggest artist on earth...to be honest, just where do you start to enumerate all that she is done...who doesn't like at least seven thousand songs from Beyonce... well, SHE was spotted wearing our classic balloon dress, one limited edition we did in 2008 in fact, and actually, I very humbly sewed the buttons on it myself by hand, exciting! We always define our clothes as timeless and well, if Beyonce keeps her Des Moines in her wardrobe for 4 years and still wears it, it kinda makes us the winners of timeless clothing! we have a small archive with some of our favourite pieces and we happen to find the one beyonce is wearing. Note that couldn't be bothered to sew the buttons on that one.

And due to the success our clothes have in Japan with Itochu, hundreds more garments have been sent and new lines have been added. You can shop for them at 5-1 Kita-Aoyama Nichome, Tokyo, Japan. Arigato!

"I wanna have a shop with jumpers and stuff"...a sentence that is written on one of our walls and a wish that actually comes true every year when the summer ends. Our hand-drawn rabbit jumpers were REALLY popular years ago but we won't be making those right now. Instead, we've gone for nude and black stripes, mosaic prints and neon colours! buy it online here and get it home nearly before you can finish your listen of Buffalo Daughter's live 303...actually that's a terrible joke 'cos although the song is 20 minutes long, it's obviously not long enough to get your delivery, which is currently an average of 3 days, do you know any song THAT long?...

Also, you might like to know that the neon pink jumper was such a success that a rusty colour one will be available soon, will keep you...posted! ha! see what we've done there...cos we were talking about postages earlier...

Everyone came to visit us this month, which is brilliant. Style Bubble came one lovely morning to The Lazy Ones HQ in Shoreditch to film a vid segment she is doing to promote the launch of a swedish brand that is coming to the U.K. and she couldn't resist getting for herself something from Des Moines new collection of lace dresses. It was pink, of course. And sooner that we could finish our 11th listen to Brilliant Colours new album, another blogger friend, Miranda Makaroff, came around 'cos she was spending a few days in London, and let me tell you people, if you are planning to come to Brick lane and browse for some amazing vintage finds, you can forget it 'cos her and her friends found absolutely all of them, that's it, what you wanted it's in their wardrobes now. And before you ask, in the picture she is wearing our black chiffon high low dress

Actually not everyone wearing Des Moines wear it in the shop only, people buy it and take it home too!Madness! like Patricia Nicolas who took her Des Moines polka dots blouse to Ibiza, go figure!

And her friend Amber Atherton appeared pensive while she was asked about her make-up routine in Stella magazine wearing one of our autumn samples, she is adorable, heart-shaped face kind of major adorable level;s, i'm telling you, cult face!

A little look at what goes backstage while we make our new garments. This is our atelier, run by Lucy, one of the most skilled and experienced seamstress in London, she's worked for lots of fashion week brands, and here she is with some of her girls making the second run of our new peach contrast jumpsuit. We love spending the afternoons there and listen to her stories about orders she's done "with that beautiful chiffon that was £30 a metre, you know..." Time is key in fashion and orders always need to move fast, so sometimes her husband helps her with the cutting,and it's so sweet to watch, like a scene in a movie, he will be on top of the cutting table with his huge, hard-working hands cutting the finest of fabrics almost in a blink of an eye while their grumpy chihuahua barks at whoever stranger is there unfolding their patterns and showing their zip choices. And these are the results, so peachy!

We had her boyf musical project Arp Lord in repeat in the studio while making decissions about fabrics and other things needed to make clothes. Summer is here, although it's actually raining today and, in fact, summer starts on saint john's day, but you get the idea, we live in London, you know...if it's dark later than 3pm, it's summer, ok?! so yeah white, it's always great to wear white, so gracious. Believe me, uploading pictures on blogger is not an easy task, especially if, like me, you have to do it while taking care of a shop on a Saturday.....oh well! This purple crochet fabric was brilliant but is now sold out, so here i'm making a sort of homage to it. Long live on some girls wardrobes! It deffo is one to keep. Well, i'm off to clear the changing room, there's hangers everywhere. By the way, did you know there's a secret room on the changing room? its a sort of utility room, anyway, when someone is on the changing room for ages i always fear she is some squatter and she is now squatting my utility room and using my brushes and floor paint and that i will have to call the police and wait, i don't know, 3 weeks for her to leave..... you know this sort of thing happens when it makes front page of Metro on a weekly basis!...well it's 3pm and that means peak time! And in true Mtero style, here are a few pics of animals!

Since the start of september everything has gone BROWN at The Lazy Ones (that's the Des Moines HQ on Brick Lane). Lots of shades of brown for suedette skirts, chiffon blouses, playsuits...

Ladies, the future is brown!, at least until we get bored of it or rather until you get bored of it. The last 2 month have been amazing for Des Moines, we've had an amazing response for our collection, and we are now shifting more units a weeks than ever, thank you for keeping us so busy! Now, let's make more pretty clothes! It certainly feels like a new chapter here, even Nat has ditched her blonde for ginger!

I found this striking crochet ages ago when i was searching for new fabrics just right before the summer and at first i didn't know what I would do with it but i liked it. The guy from the fabric shop told me it was a 60's original cloth, so it had been lying around in their warehouse for 50 years, crazy!
After a few hours playing with it on the mannequin in the studio i decided to make a simple and nice long-sleeved crop top, and as soon as i finished i realised that it could really work as a maxidress as well. Off-white 60's crochet maxidress. Score! The next day i left the rough unfinished version on the display at the shop and someone wanted to get it straight away. It has been such a best-seller since then, and topshop still likes it so much the guys from display have used it for autumn too!

I guess it's now a classic!

i'm loving suede shorts at the moment! i'm mastering a new pattern for some that will pop-up in a few weeks, i'll show you soon. I'm also loving pants at the moment and i wanted something oversized to wear with them so i created this tunic. It's made in a light chiffon so i can tuck it in or wear it flowy. Here i'm wearing the coral one, but my favourite is the militar green, i'm so in love with it and so proud of the pockets, actually!

There's a lovely pop-up shop in redchurch st. where they make great minimal coffee, yes, minimal, no sugar or milk allowed.
Also, our coral oversized tunics that we lauched a few weeks ago, are nearly sold out at Topshop. And we have also launched some new ones, they have this ruffle detaling running all the way to the bottom. They are both done with these cool busy prints, one is abstract and the other one more aztec. I do like a crazy print now and then. And check out our wardrobe at Topshop Oxford Circus.

Broadway market is such a nice place to spend our saturday mornings. We wake up quite early to be honest, considering it's a saturday, and run to get our fennel pesto fix, before we rush to open our shop. Went to Beyond Retro, again, and found this floral playsuit, and the jean one too! Actually, I think it's their huge amount of hawaiian shirts that influenced me to buy this fabric to make this cute crop top, and while i was there i spotted a few metres of this green crochet and couldn't resist make some too, i hope the picture captured a bit it's rich texture.

A few weeks back we did our first trade show! It took place at Hammersmith Olympia which is a good one hour away from The Lazy Ones HQ!,....daytrip yaay!It was an interesting experience none the less, we sold lots, made interesting contacts and witnessed a guy in nothing but lots of fake tan and a thong, giving out roses (it was St. Valentine's day) We took a pic but came out blurry cos it was hot like Mexico....not!,
We tried to recreate the feel of our shop in the stall space and it looked pretty cute! As well, we were unveiling designs from our next collection that we will show you very soon!

I was the other day in the store and this cool girl comes in and tells me she was going to a party and she thought on wearing a jumpsuit and i was like, "hey, i got the right thing for you", and i showed her my Des Moines knitted jumpsuit which by the way is out now in it's 2nd edition,

and also the light denim one, and she was like, "hey i really like this one but i'm not sure if denim might be a bit stiff to wear for a party". Not at all, i said, we take really good care of sourcing the best fabrics for each garment and i can asure you wearing this denim feels like you have nothing on!. Then i smiled, it's always best to smile after you've been a bit technical, you know.

She looked at me like i was alan sugar's last week fired apprentice and told me she still wasn't convinced. My "you're losing a sale" bell rang loudly so i said, Girl, i'm gonna prove you wrong and at the same time show how Marc Jacobs it's not the only designer out there who likes a stretch.

So i was like you can do this, aaand this, and most surely you can also do this and......

.... just as i was going down with dog, she told me she was convinced and she bought it and left quite quickly! God how am i like?! She also left before i could show her all you can do with my one-off cut-out tees!

This is more of a sample piece. We loved the fabric, a nice floral jean but like Tina we like it nice but we like it rrrrough, so Nat grabbed a cutter and looked decidely at me, i got a bit scared, i mean, i know i was guilty of not doing the dishes for a week but, did it have to come to this?! Luckily i think it was more of an eureka look as she just stared at the piece and ripped the frontal panelling. Of course, frayed jean!, pheeewww!

It's almost x-mas day and almost nye! let's dance!! They are perfect days to wear Des Moines for sure, but which one! Lots of you are loving the thread dress, some versions are now sold out, like the white one and a new remix has pop out, the thread dress last version. It's such a winner!. As well as being available at our usual stockists in the U.K, it will also be available in the U.S. at Pixie Market. As you can see i'm trying to sound all international here to impress the family over x-mas.

What a nice new dress! it's the Flow dress. Those sleeves are so arty....so 70's, with the collar..magnifique!
The two dresses from the last post, the thread dress and the blue ldn dress, provoked quite a riot in Topshop last week, most succesful launch of a collection ever for Des Moines in Topshop. So exciting! We are working on new ones and we can't wait to show you. In the meantime go to see Heartbreak at the ICA.

We present you the first Des Moines designs from the party season 08. Exciting! stunning!
We are working on more so we keep you posted!
The first design is the thread dress, can you believe the top part is actually jersey? It's such an amazing fabric, paired with the most delicious pure silk with gold stripes. All the trimmings are vintage and very exclusive.
The second garment, the blue ldn dress, is a limited edition and a rework of the lovely LDN dress. The skirt is shorter than the original and made out of crepe de chine. The top part is a really rare thick jersey, when you have it on it acts almost like a corset on you. Also we made it with an open back cos it's sexy!.
The third one is the puffball feather attack! so luxurious!.

In other news, our U.S. adventure is going great! Pixie Market sold out of the snakeskin print top the first week and a second order, with aditional designs, is already available in their stores! go buy it!

We are proud to present our first knitwear range of this winter, that we funnily named comme des moines. It's a very versatile piece, it's more of a throw as we wanted something that you could make your own easily but with enough attitude to wear it as it comes. And have you seen its killer bows, they are amazing!

After starting our series of fashion capitals with the LDN dress, we continue it with the Paris dress which is the one on the second picture. Red and white chiffon, blue creppe and a contrasting bias binding in the collar, tres chic , non? The perfect dress if you wanna stop being demode.

Fashion designer loses the plot!

East-London fashion designer Nat Colom lost the plot as she was trying on her own new creation. The member of the creative duo The Lazy Ones was shooting in her studio pictures for the launching of her new LDN dress, a red jersey frock with a rather funky frontal pannelling, when she started shouting "i'm feeling so light, this is soooo Agy!" and "yoooou better call Katie Graaand right now!". The situation took a dramatic twist as the Ange dress designer headed to the window in, what is rumored, was an attemp to emulate Laura Hollins in her latest spread for Pop magazine where she jumped from a 5th floor. Luckily everything ended up well as Diego, the other member of The Lazy Ones, remind her that he was no Ryan Mcginley and most importantly that there was no safety net or any fake snow for that matter.
The LDN dress is safely in stores now.

This is the first Des Moines bolero jacket, very dark romance!
the body of the bolero is made with an amazing thready-furry luxurious fabric and the sleeves are black chiffon. The applique is a vintage taffeta corsage flower.
Nat is not hidding like Angelina, we just have been too busy lately to be able to shoot our designs in our typical arti way, but we will soon. In the meantime we are filling the world with new garments for you, so you look the coolest this autumn

These 3 new pieces are amazing! they were put together in 24 hours! Nat woke up at 8am last thrusday and did the 3 patterns for them(we call them Party, Arty & Aggy or 3-Y, ha! fashion joke!). We then went to buy the fabrics and took them to the studio. Then there's all that cutting and joining thingy with the sewing machine. And the pressing.
By friday at midday they were already in Topshop and at The Lazy Ones. we love it!
That's one of the most exciting things about Des Moines (& The Lazy Ones too!) We are MADE IN LONDON! All the materials are bought in London, every single garment is manufactured in London....In fact, we can safely say that when you are buying Des Moines you are buying a piece of ALBIOOON!

Style bubble was on teen vogue and she was wearing Des Moines!

We did a few weeks back a photoshoot for the september issue of ASOS magazine for a feature called "stars of the internet", well they said that!, we don't believe it, but it's a nice thing to label us into, although the best support ever was this e-mail from a few weeks back! we love you!!rock and roll!

I love her new "speed-shopping" approach, we do the same!it just needs a bit more concentration than bargain hunting, but surprisingly you get it right more often, well..... not that day that Nat bought the ugliest bat-sleeved, turtle-neck, rhinestones jumper on earth, hahaha.

We are still putting our final touches to our new collection. It will be in stores from saturday, not all of it, we will slowly drop designs after and actually before! i forgot there is one new design already on sale. The good thing about having a label that its run entirely in London is that you can move so fast. Fashionwise i mean, because moving from A to B isn't as easy as it seems in this city. That's why we can create The Others. The Others are what we call to variations of our best sellers, that way there is a always a little bit extra love and exclusivity in our designs.
Check out Karine from Coffee&cigarettes wearing a rare and limited version of the postpunk top.
Karine is so cool, she once hugged Ian svenonius, went on a date with a teens of thailand and has a pic with grace jones cos she toured with her dad!

As i said, we are having fun with all the new ideas Nat has come up with. This collection is a big responsibility as it will be not only our most creative but also most relevant for us to date. We have two more companies interested in Des Moines and that is always a good thing. Let me tell you, we love a challenge, i mean, you are talking to a man that was queueing 3 times a week for a brownie down the bagel shop and now wakes up everyday at 8am to go to the gym. Yes i now, my mum is proud too! that's our studio right now.

They are Des Moines skirts and they are new! there is a ton of new colour combinations and they all have that perfect Des Moines length, not too long not too short! hey, we spotted one at the Macbeth two weeks ago.
If you must know we have joined the gym! Funnily enough it has a weird effect on our musical taste. Nothing trendy makes our muscles move so while training we ditch chromatics or the teenagers and we feed our ears with the 80's hour on virgin radio!
